When creativity meets collaboration, magic happens—and this is exactly what unfolded at the 2024 Confetti Collective tablescape design competition. Partnering with the incredible talent of Jordan Statz with Form Floral, we crafted an award-winning tablescape that was unique, lush, bold, and innovative.
THE INSPIRATION: MOODY, LUSH, ROMANTIC
The goal was for our table to stand out amongst the classic all-white flowers and pastel palettes. Our tablescape was centered around unconventional elements, including an abundance of fresh fruits and exotic blooms that added texture, richness, and intrigue. This wasn’t your typical wedding table—it was an invitation to explore and savor every layer of the design. With each glance, there was something new to discover and something unexpected that surprised you.
The concept of using fruit and edible décor isn’t new, but it’s often executed with vibrant fruits like limes, lemons, and grapefruits to create a bright, colorful display. Leaning into our unconventional vision, we chose to instead explore more intriguing options that aligned with the moody, lush aesthetic of our design. By incorporating elements like red bananas, purple plums, grape clusters, and pears, we created a tablescape that felt unexpected yet stunning. Even the addition of mushrooms brought a natural, earthy touch, edging the design closer to an art installation.
THE DETAILS: TEXTURE AND BALANCE
The layered place settings featured glassware, plates, chargers, and flatware from The Confetti Studio. Each piece was thoughtfully chosen to enhance the balance of light and dark.
Amber votives, ceramic and brass candle holders, black dinnerware, modern flatware, and even contrasting pink and black glassware. All working together, towing that line of moody and romantic, creating an overall stunning balance.
Texture was also extremely important to this design. A smooth black pillar candle next to a spiraled blush tapered candle. A ceramic plate set on a rattan charger. Even the texture of the glassware and votives helped add more depth and intrigue to the table design.
The foundation of every tablescape, is the linen selection. Working with BBJ La Tavola, we selected a thick aubergine table linen that provided a rich, velvety texture, capturing that moody feeling. To soften the look and add contrast, we layered it with a flowing blush runner. Rather than placing the runner down the center of the table as traditionally done, we opted to drape it organically through the tablescape, weaving it among the florals, fruit, and décor. This unexpected approach added movement and dimension to the table while highlighting the balance between structured and organic elements.
Walking away with first place at "Confetti Collective" was an honor that reaffirmed our belief in embracing bold, nontraditional design. This tablescape was not only a reflection of our vision but also a testament to the power of collaboration with like-minded creatives. At Gardenia Weddings, we pride ourselves on crafting designs that reflect the personality, style, and uniqueness of every couple.
